What do you know about the TOEFL and IELTS?  Did you know that … ?

n      the TOEFL and IELTS are international standardized English language proficiency tests?

n      if you want to continue your studies in an English-speaking country, you will probably have to take either the TOEFL or IELTS first?

n      sometimes you might be required to take one of these tests just to continue your studies in your native country?

n      many jobs abroad require that you receive a minimum TOEFL or IELTS score?

n      the TOEFL test now has two versions: one paper-based and the other computer-based?

  

n      Have you ever wondered how good your English is? 

n      Have you ever considered studying abroad?

n      Are you considering continuing your studies?

Then now is the time to learn more about the TOEFL and IELTS!

 

Before embarking on the quest, however, first spend 10-15 minutes on Brainstorming Sheet 1.  First read and think about it individually; then share your thoughts with the rest of the class. 

 

After that, take a look at the sample TOEFL and IELTS questions provided by your instructor.  Next, spend another 10-15 minutes on Brainstorming Sheet 2.  Once again, you should first think about the answers to the questions individually, and then share your ideas with your classmates and instructor.
